On October 2 - 3 2007 the RIPE NCC regional meeting
was held in Moscow at "Marriott Grand" hotel. The meeting was dedicated to the issues
of resources distribution policy and Internet address space management. Traditionally,
RIPN was a co-organizer of the meeting.
Such meetings are held for Internet development assistance in the region,
serviced by RIPE NCC. The meetings make RIPE community members from different
regions closer to each other and promote active attraction of these people
to participation in RIPE meetings,
where internet-resources distribution policy is being worked out together, and to
participation in work groups.
This year more than 150 members attended the meeting - representatives of RIPE NCC,
Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of the Russian Federation,
Russian and foreign Internet service-providers, traffic exchange points, registrars
and administrators, government and public organizations.
The midpoint of the conference was a question of Internet address space allocation
and methods for managing this process. High emphasis was as usual placed on resolution
of difficulties encountered by Russian consumers in light of the existing contradictions
between the domestic and European legislation. The speech of the Russian Ministry of
Information Technologies and Communications representatives about public policy in
the field of info- and communication technologies also aroused much of the meeting
Closing the meeting, representatives of RU-CENTER, regional meeting organizer
from the Russian party, passed on to RIPE NCC governing body the wishes of their
regional partners to hold the next meeting not in Moscow but in a Russian region.
RIPE NCC managers promised to attentively consider this offer and informed about
their willing to hold the next meeting in St.-Petersburg. However, it's early to
talk about that for the moment. The nearest regional conference will be held in Doha
(Qatar) on 19th November this year.
